Bison Manufacturing Limited was formed in 1919. With over 90 years of specialist precast experience, Bison has the largest precast production capability in the UK, specialising in pre cast columns, beams, walls, stairs and long span walls. Whilst based in Swadlincote, Derbyshire, the firm also operates a modern manufacturing facility at Uddingston, near Glasgow.
Bison’s skilled personnel and manufacturing facilities have been required to play a part in the development of some of the nations most impressive venues - Wembley, Twickenham Rugby Stadium and Kings Cross to name but a few. The company uses a state of the art system that is at the forefront of the industry and is the only plant of its type in the world.
Steve Bowen, Production Manager, comments:
“Ben Cressey approached us from Construction Learning World and outlined the whole NVQ process to us and how it would work. We wanted to make sure that the end benefit. We wanted to make sure that our operatives would receive the end benefit. Ben took time to fully explain everything in detail and we saw the benefits to both the business and the operatives."
“I thought the programme was orchestrated very well. Initially we had concerns about disruption to production, but once it began the training never compromised our productivity in any way at all. Previously, other providers had got in the way of our work schedule, but Construction Learning World established a pattern of work around us that ensured everyone got seen and assessed without any decline in production.”
“Ben, the Learning World Business Development Manager, always kept in touch with us, reviewing progress and keeping everything moving along. It was important to us to keep everyone in the loop and Ben was excellent at communicating everything to us!”
“The guys were really receptive to the whole process and got on really well with the people from Learning World. A couple of the guys are dyslexic and the the CLW assessor, catered for everyone’s learning needs brilliantly and made it all work with his flexibility and professionalism.”
“I feel the qualification is a great promotional tool for the business, it qualifies the guys, plus demonstrates our responsibility and commitment to developing our workforce professionally. The CPCS cards give our drivers added confidence and makes sure that we are up to date with legislation and stay ahead of the times.”
“What sets CLW apart is that they made it all so easy. In the past other providers struggled to meet our specific business needs, but CLW did all the work for us. We constantly received support and the provision of their training makes it clear that CLW are way out there in front of all over providers."
"Overall the programme went down exceptionally well and I’d be happy to recommend CLW to anyone. With more guys being put forward for the qualification, we’re on track to soon have 95% of our workforce qualified!”
Lee Manning, who was awarded NVQ Level 2 in Plant Operations Forklift Sideloader, adds:
“I thought it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Malcolm Ladds was a great instructor and didn't get in the way. He was very understanding and flexible to my needs.”
Paul Dennis, also awarded NVQ Level 2 in Plant Operations Forklift Sideloader, comments:
“We developed a brilliant relationship with our assessor Malcolm. Malcolm visited us nearly every day and never got in the way. If ever we were busy he would wait. I only have good things to say about Malcolm. He is brilliant at what he does.”
