Construction Learning World is proud to be working with Tarmac, having signed a nationwide agreement to provide NVQ assessment and training. Primarily, CLW is delivering support to National Road Planing (NRP), National Contracting, BDP Surfacing and MBP Surfacing.
In order to fit around NRP’s busy operation and get as many of their team started, CLW undertook a series of on-site profiling sessions in Rand and Thatcham, including hiring a nearby community hall on a Saturday morning to make sure that all of the workforce could attend a session without losing time away from the job.
Since October 2008, 353 of Tarmac’s employed or subcontracted workforce have either completed or are near to completing an NVQ through CLW.
Level 2 NVQs delivered across construction and logistics operations include: Highways Maintenance, Plant Operations, Roadbuilding, Driving Goods Vehicles and Carry and Deliver Goods. Site Supervision has also been delivered at Level 3. CLW has also arranged additional training for 24 employees in CPCS Loading Shovels, ADR and the Site Supervisors Safety Training Scheme.
“I’ve been waiting for someone to come along and provide the level of service that the business required,” said NRP Contracts Director, Jamie Town. “Thankfully, CLW was more than able to meet our needs. From the initial approach through to end assessment, all of the CLW team have acted swiftly and professionally; understanding our needs and getting on with the work – exactly what I wanted.”
“The assessors have been very accommodating and arranging to meet with our guys at night, fitting around shifts and the like, to make sure that they achieved their qualifications. CLW’s flexible approach meant that any difficulties in getting to see the guys were overcome.”
“Every step of the way I’ve been kept updated and my experience with Learning World has given me every confidence to recommend them to other people. I’ve been so impressed that I’ve already passed on Learning World’s details to 30 sub contractors,” said Jamie.
Tarmac’s National Contracting Training Advisor, Chris Williams:
“Our past experience of NVQ providers hasn’t lived up to expectations - time and again communications have been poor and promises just haven’t been delivered. I’m pleased to say that my experience with Construction Learning World has been the exact opposite.“
“One thing that’s really important is for the NVQ assessors to have real industry experience; CLW’s assessors have up to date industry knowledge and all come from construction backgrounds. For me, it’s the biggest positive and makes such a difference to the NVQ delivery. It’s a big driver in our relationship as CLW’s assessors speak the same language as our workers.”
“We have a job to do and the last thing we need is an assessor holding up the work. CLW’s assessors are punctual and the communication has been fantastic.”
"Our Construction Learning World account manager, Richard Carrington, keeps in touch. The relationship is important as all our work stems from the good understanding we have – Richard doesn’t waste my time, only calling me when it’s necessary. He also doesn’t soft-soap me either! That’s why the relationship is so good. We’ve put over 300 of our operatives through CLW.”
“Tarmac is a leader in what we do and it’s good to be working with the leading training firm.”
