New Quarrying Qualifications
News

Construction Learning World (CLW) has been accredited by the newly formed Mineral Products Qualifications Council (MPQC) to deliver specialist vocational qualifications to the quarrying, mineral processing and road building industries.
CLW is now able to deliver Level 2 NVQs in:
- Processing Operations for the Extractive and Mineral Processing Industries
- Plant Operations (Extractives)
- Road Building (Construction)
- Highways Maintenance (Construction)
In the near future, CLW will be extending its provision to include these qualifications at Level 3, as well as further quarrying related qualifications.
“We are pleased to add these qualifications to our growing catalogue of NVQs,” said Adrian Woodhouse, CLW Business Development Director. “Being accredited by the MPQC strengthens our ability to meet the needs of the quarrying industry and compliments our delivery of NVQs, such as Driving Goods Vehicles, all of which ensures that we are in the best position to support this important sector.”
Recently, the HSE reported that since the launch of the quarrying industry’s Hard Target Initiative in 2000, the industry has achieved a 55% reduction in accidents. Building from this success, Target Zero aims to achieve zero reportable accidents by 2015.
“Quarrying is a high risk industry and since 2000 over 2,700 workers have suffered an injury reportable to HSE. A qualified workforce is one way that risks may be reduced,” said Adrian. “Health and safety is a key component of National Vocational Qualifications and is all part and parcel of CLW’s end-to-end service.”
MPQC is the awarding body for quarrying, replacing the EMP Awarding Body, and is nationally recognised to award NVQs for the extractive and mineral processing, mining and waste processing industries.
